Q4 2020 Performance of Top Social Networking iOS Apps in France

In the fourth quarter of 2020, the social networking scene on the iOS platform in France saw various trends in user engagement and app downloads. Data provided by Sensor Tower offers insight into the performance of the top five social networking apps during this period.

WhatsApp Messenger maintained a strong presence with downloads increasing from 84K in the last week of September to over 129K by the end of December. Weekly active users showed a steady climb, starting at 14.6M and peaking at 15.2M in the final week of 2020. The app's weekly revenue also saw fluctuations, with a high of 40K USD in late November and late December.

Messenger, another major player, experienced a surge in downloads, jumping from 47K to nearly 79K over the quarter. The app's weekly active users followed an upward trajectory, beginning at 7.7M and reaching a peak of 8.5M in the third week of December.

Facebook also saw a rise in both downloads and weekly active users. Downloads grew from 49K to 75K, while active users increased from 10.4M to over 10.7M. The app's revenue trended upwards, ending the year with weekly revenue of over 7K USD.

Discord - Chat, Talk & Hangout witnessed significant growth, with downloads spiking from 31K to a high of 76K in early November before settling at 45K by year-end. Active users saw a steady increase from 1.3M to 1.6M by mid-quarter, although there was a slight dip to 1.6M by the end of December. Revenue peaked in the third week of December at nearly 30K USD.

Lastly, Telegram Messenger showed consistent download numbers, starting at 23K and reaching over 31K. Weekly active users began at approximately 819K, with minor fluctuations, ending the quarter with 867K active users.
